Since its foundation the goal of the Hungarian Gas Association (MGE) has been to contribute, with its activities, to maintaining the security of gas supply in Hungary and to secure firm supply to the consumers, as well as to improving the level of gas supply.

MGE member companies do their best to further develop themselves following the market opening to the common interest of every participant in the natural gas market.

As the representative of the gas industry, MGE initiates and supports all amendments and proposals in legislation that are in line with the business processes of the natural gas market and make such processes predictable and transparent.

MGE is committed towards developing a stabile regulation that can indeed support a market competition. MGE has further developed its operations in accordance with the effective EU standards and gas law concept and in the spirit of market opening. Our Association is open for market license-holders that are closely inter-cooperating with each other along the natural gas supply chain and offers the opportunity for joining MGE.

The Hungarian Gas Association is striving for remaining the dominant representative of the domestic gas industry and increasing its membership, thus expanding the scope of the professional activities it represents, as well as doing its best in the interest of the member companies and their representation in order that a legal environment can be prepared and introduced, which can ensure steady and permanent development for the member companies, transparent and predictable business and economic environment so that the security of natural gas supply for Hungary can be maintained and based on competitive terms and conditions.

We believe that activities of MGE member companies can significantly contribute to ensuring that the natural gas market is able to trouble-free operations even in the new situation and in full compliance with the European Union standards and the Hungarian laws.

The Board of Directors of MGE is the operative management body. It regularly overviews the most critical actions, tasks facing the gas industry, and defines the common strategy and the steps required for its implementation. The preparatory work performed with deep professional knowledge and commitment by the MGE committees can offer efficient support to the Board of Directors of MGE ’s efficient operations. As a result, MGE member companies can form a robust joint professional opinion in various issues related to the gas industry.

MGE represents the domestic natural gas industry in various international organisations. MGE is a member in the German Association of Water and Gas Industry (DVGW), the European Organisation of Independent Energy Suppliers (GEODE) and the European Organisation of the Natural Gas Industry (EUROGAS). The referred relationships can enable MGE to closely monitor and follow the EU legislation preparatory works in and to influence the EU legislative works that have impacts also onto the Hungarian domestic regulations.

MGE gives support to institutions of higher learning, including – inter alia – a special award granted to graduate students who prepare their thesis in topics related to the gas distribution operations. We are indeed happy to see that the number of graduates who select disciplines related to architecture engineering, energy and natural gas market keeps on rising, and we are confident that more and more highly qualified and talented young graduates will join the natural gas industry.

MGE member companies do their best to ensure uninterrupted and high level supply and to improve the security of gas supply for the domestic natural gas consumers in a trouble-free and cost-efficient manner.
